Visit the museum

Considered one of the major diocesan museums in Italy for the value and importance of the works it displays, the “Francesco Gonzaga” museum collects significant and precious works of art coming from the Cathedral, the Basilica Palatina of Santa Barbara, the diocesan territory and numerous private collections.
This museum is of international significance thanks to all the paintings, sculptures, jewellery, tapestries, illuminated books, ceramics, ivories, weapons and armour it houses - some of which are considered unique in the world.

The seat of the museum is the ancient Gothic monastery of S. Agnese (on the first floor).

The large internal cloister – under the loggias of which Mantova Libri Mappe Stampe takes place – dates back to 15th-16th century, while the neoclassical facade is the work of Paolo Pozzo (1795).

During the days of the event, visitors of Mantova Libri Mappe Stampe are entitled to a reduced ticket to visit the Museum’s collection.

Telephone reservation is required.

"An exhibition-market dedicated to the unobtainable, the forgotten and therefore to possible discoveries. But above all an exhibition-market that made history because it was the first, back in 1975, to bring to Italy an event entirely dedicated to ancient and precious paper. "
